Soapbox aims to help learning by emphasising the relationship between the spelling pattern and the vowel sound. Each word is pronounced, the consonant pattern is emphasised by highlighting, and contrasts are made between words with short and long vowel sounds. The target is to help pupils learn when to use double letters in bisyllabic words - which frequently cause difficulty.
A large bank of recorded words is supplied on vocabulary discs in graded lists. With the use of a sound sampler you may add your own word lists and hear your own voice being spoken by the computer. A report file saved to disc shows how the pupil progressed with the spelling test. It also will keep track of repeated exercises.
The program's main features:
- Simple spelling practice
- Comprehensive word lists
- Word lists from the National Literacy Strategy included
- No nonsense teaching environment
