Sherlock 2 turns pupils into 'text detectives' by creating whole word cloze exercises as well as others which include capital letter and punctuation practice. Pupils fill the gaps so the text re-appears like a photograph being developed, and can optionally be scored and timed while working.
Vowels, consonants, word-starts, middles, ends and even whole words are just some of the characters or letter combinations that Sherlock can remove under your control - all of a particular type, or a percentage of your choice. It produces on-screen and printable exercises from the 40 texts supplied, or you can load your own stories, poems and even snippets from class readers. Sherlock 2 can also be just as useful in cross curricular work and even in Maths (e.g. 3 x 4 = ?)
By thinking about the missing text, pupils develop spelling, comprehension, grammar & predictive reading skills.
Extracts from novels and poetry can be customised in this easy-to-use 'Code' screen to fit specific learning objectives.
The 'Stats' button shows what's left to find. There's also a 'cheat' button to 'buy' characters. All letters and words can be spoken.
The latest Windows version can use text icons instead of picture icons making it suitable for older pupils/adults.
