Wordshark
is a major teaching resource used widely in schools. It combines
the excitement of computer games with the serious task of learning
to read and spell. It offers 36 different games which use sound,
graphics and text to teach and reinforce word recognition and
spelling.
It is suitable for Key-stage 1-3, early literacy to 13 years or
so. The games and the selection of pre-recorded words have been
specially targeted to assist those with specific learning difficulties/dyslexia.
The variety of games, concepts and words make Wordshark suitable
for use in both primary and secondary schools as well as at home.
The 36 games provide high motivation and interest. Each game is
designed to help with one or more htmlects of reading and spelling.
Variable levels and speeds for each game to meet all grades of
skill levels. Games provide good training in mouse and keyboard
skills.
The word lists are presented in 3 alternative structured courses
to cover the Literacy Hour, the 3 stages of the book `Alpha to
Omega` or as a Secondary Adult SEN. Words are grouped in a structured
sequence to reinforce the learning process. Contextual use of
words are provided in sentences for every list. Pupils can work
independently on pre-selected word lists. Choice of words based
on all 3 stages of the book `Alpha to Omega`. Facility to record
your own word lists. Easy to follow manual including all word
lists and teaching notes. Help boxes are relevant to the current
screen with on screen teaching notes. Printouts of wordsearch
and sentence worksheets are available for every list to reinforce
learning.
