A
fully featured word processor for the whole class with a sliding
scale of extra help for those who need it - that's Inclusive Writer.
On-screen keyboards, wordlists, picture grids, spell checking
aided by speech and pictures.
Literacy is a top priority
This program allows pupils to write with the right level of additional
support. Much more than a word processor, Inclusive Writer comes
with many different literacy activities on the CD and you can
readily design your own.
Government
initiatives for "inclusion" will mean that a wide range
of learners' needs will have to be met, and activities differentiated
for different abilities and access needs. Inclusive Writer will
include almost every learner in writing and literacy activities
... even those who use switches.
Switch
Access as Standard
With switch access, for full inclusion, Inclusive Writer allows
every child to produce attractive written work with the option
of using the resident vocabulary of 7,000 words with picture illustrations.
Pictures and sound make checking spelling or choosing the right
word more effective.
You
can create a word/phrase bank in one or more windows, and send
the words, letters or phrases into your main document. Any window
can be edited easily as you work - modify or add new words and
pictures quickly.
Use
Inclusive Writer as a standard classroom word processor. Through
the use of graphics, pictorial support can be used to aid spelling,
learning about word families, grammatical structures and other
htmlects of literacy.
Picture
Support
Comes with images to illustrate 7,000 words and you can also easily
add your own. Through the support of images, help your pupils
to see that they have correctly spelt the past tense of a verb,
or turned an adjective into an adverb - happy becomes happily.
If it is not spelt correctly the image will not appear.
Speech
Includes speech so you can listen to your writing as you go, or
afterwards. Has different voices and you can even apply different
voices to different parts of the text. Have different characters
speaking in different voices, or just have fun telling jokes!
As well as synthesised speech, you can add sound files to your
work. Liven up your writing about the zoo with animal noises!
Choose the appropriate menu bar for a particular learner or group.
There are six to choose from. Tailor the environment for the activity
and for the learner.
Spell
Checker
Spell checker with pictorial support. Do I need 'pear', 'pair'
or 'pare'? Listen to the word and look at the picture. Try out
the word before making your choice. You can even tailor the spellchecker
to recognise those local dialect words.
Design
Activities
- Set up an activity with
an appropriate word/phrase bank or picture grid - perhaps more
than one. Add a button window for easy access to commands such
as 'put a big picture in the middle'. Windows or grids can now
be locked into place. Save the whole environment so it will
load up as you wish the pupils to use it.
- Now with switch access
to grids, so learners who need to access the computer through
switch(es) can use the same software as everyone else.
- Comes with many pre-designed
activities, including word banks, sequencing activities, story
starters, non-fiction writing, rhyming words.
- All activities can be
modified to suit your learners, and there is a tutorial to help
you get started in designing your own activities.
