Under current DSA arrangements students receive the Disabled
Student's Allowance when they have evidence of their disability
and have a Needs
Assessment report produced by an Assessor attached to an approved
Assessment Centre. There are assessment Centres round the country
most of which are attached to the University attended by their
clients. There are, however, many Colleges and Universities which
do not have an Assessment Centre so students may need to travel
to be assessed.
You should ask your LEA's Student
Support Officer or the Disability
Officer at your University or College about the local Assessment
Centre. You can also see a list of assessment centres on the DfES
web site.
Broadbent & Co
operates an Assessment Centre in Greater Manchester providing
Needs Assessment reports for students throughout the country by
visiting them at home, university or college.
